Hello friends!
If you don't know already, my name is Claire Quinlivan and I am a freshmen at the wonderful University of Alabama studying Food and Nutrition in order to become a Registered Dietician!
I'm also currently working on my certification to become a personal trainer through AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of American). Which, by the way, is taking longer than it should due to all the other things keeping me busy in my life.
Health and fitness hasn't always been a priority in my life. While I've always been active from playing outside non stop as a kid to running track and cross country in jr. high and high school, I've also always loved to eat. And eating too much of the wrong thing for the wrong reasons is what kept me just over weight enough to have zero self esteem and zero confidence.
Until something strange happened and my self control decided to show up during the middle of my junior year in high school. After a few short months I dropped give or take thirty pounds and looking in the mirror became a whole lot easier. The key word in the last sentence is short - I lost too big of a number in the amount of time that I should. Reasons being I became obsessed and was constantly counting every single calorie consumed along with every single calorie burned all while being prisoner to the gym. I was miserable. Drastically constricting my calories lead me in to a cycle of binge eating that came with a whole new boat of disgusted-with-myself feelings. I was terrified of the weight I'd been slave to for years somehow finding its way back.
Thinking back I'm not sure what slapped sense into me but if I had to guess I think it was finally realizing I couldn't live this way forever. Also, I started to cook. And through learning to cook and by treating my body with respect I discovered the secret to everything: balance. Finding my balance is still a challenge every day and so is learning to love myself. But I believe finding your balance and understanding a piece of cake won't kill you and a missed work out is necessary sometimes is when you really start to understand a healthy lifestyle.
So there's my spill. And with it my secret. My passion is health and fitness and with that I want to help people who struggle to find their balance because I believe everyone deserves to love themselves. Hopefully this blog can be a place of support and motivation.
Do the body some good.
XOXO,
Claire
P.S. Please do not hesitate to throw me an email for absolutely any reason! Whether you want to share some struggles or just chat about the day!
