Next, break up a few candy bars to sprinkle over cake. Let cake cool before spreading whipped topping over top of cake then sprinkle remaining candy bars on top and garnish with chocolate and caramel syrup. Viola! Don't go into a sugar coma!</div>

It was taco day at the AGD house which could have been a heavy or light meal, depending on your approach. I avoided the cheese dips and sided with light by making a turkey taco salad. This was actually <i>waaay</i> better than I was expecting so after a few bites I decided it was blog worthy and snapped a picture. My turkey taco salad included romaine, black bean and corn salsa, broccoli, shredded cheddar, a few crushed up tortilla chips, and shredded deli turkey.</div>

Gettin' a little creative with the blog in the background, check it. So I'm on a bit of a cereal kick if you've haven't noticed already. It's kind of like a challenge - making a cereal breakfast nutritious - to get enough protein, complex carbs, and keep the sugar and calorie count low. For indecisive people like myself, combos are always a good idea and this morning's combo proved just that. I woke up knowing I didn't have enough Newman's Own to make a breakfast so I slipped on my house shoes and headed down to Julia's Market to browse the overpriced cereals they had on hand. Initially, I had my eye out for Kashi GoLean Crunch but all they had was <i>Crisp</i> so I grabbed that along with a box of Leapin' Lemurs. Go right now and buy Kashi's Cinnamon Crumble just for the wonderful aroma you experience when you open the bag - <i>holy cow my nose was tingling</i> - and the 10 grams of protein you get per serving. Anyways, along with the cereal combo I added in 1/2 a sliced banana, PB2, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. </div>

At the end of the class the instructor explained what <b>namaste</b> meant in her opinion. The combination of everything was just <b>so </b>good, especially the peanut butter powder! I found the PB2 at Earthfare while I was in Auburn this weekend and I'm very glad I did. It's only 45 calories with 4 grams of protein per serving. All you do is mix 2 Tbsp of the peanut butter powder with 1 Tbsp of water and you have peanut butter! I really like to mix it in with my cereal and yogurt.</div>

I had to be up and at 'em early Sunday morning so I could get on the road and be back in Tuscaloosa in time for my meeting with Project Health. I recently applied to become a Health Ambassador on campus and was interviewed and ended up getting chosen to be apart of the organization. I've got to say, I am very excited about it because I get to educate my peers on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle and I get the title of <i>ambassador</i>. How cool? </div>

Keeping up with my workout of late, I'm on the path of turning into a runner again. I guess after five years of cross-country practices something has to stick. The thought of running can really be dreadful to me but recently I can't get enough of it. Maybe it's because it's the quickest and easiest form of exercise I can squeeze into a busy college schedule. Or maybe it's the feeling of getting into my stride - which resembles that of a duck - and just rolling across campus. But really I think it's finishing a run and being drenched in sweat - ew I look so nasty, too - and having that feeling of accomplishment. Yup, that's it. Go for a run ladies and gents and you'll see what I'm talking about.</div>

I get a lot of questions about the way I eat. People will say how can you eat that and be such a health nut? The answer is I'm not striving for a perfect healthy lifestyle because in my opinion a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean depriving yourself. In other words, there's <u>always</u> room for dessert! </div>

I aim for 90/10 when it comes to the way I eat. Since I eat at least five times (three meals and two snacks) per day, seven days of the week that means I eat around 35 meals each week. So I want 90% of those meals to come from clean, whole, and healthy foods and then the other 10% to be whatever I feel like having within reason. This makes it easier to stay on track and still be able to treat myself!</div>

If you haven't already guessed by the pictures, a group of us decided to get our ears pierced at Claire's before going bowling with the senior Alpha Gams on Thursday night. I was so nervous considering the last time I had my ears pierced I was in the first grade but it really wasn't bad at all! Between getting my ears pierced and dancing to the Cupid Shuffle at the bowling alley, Thursday was such a blast! I'm beyond thrilled and blessed to already have met so many amazing girls in my pledge class. I love you guys! </div>

Even though it was <i>Fried Friday</i> at the house I still managed to use the salad bar to my advantage along with just a few things I can keep in my dorm. Of course I had to maintain my 90/10 rule and have a small side of potato wedges off the fried buffet. </div>

Monday morning I took a nice thirty minute run around campus with one of my pledge sisters. The weather in the morning and evening are polar opposites compared to during the day. It felt ahhhmazing Monday morning and then I swear I was dripping sweat walking to class later that day. After opening my bid and running to the Alpha Gamma Delta house on Saturday I finally got to meet my pledge class and all my new sisters! For our pledge retreat we spent Sunday and Monday at Lake Martin chillaxin' by the pool and playing on the lake. I water skied and ate Krispy Creme donuts for breakfast (that kinda negates the empty calories, right?) and all in all had a great time.</div>

<u>Directions</u></div>

Preheat oven to 450F and postion rack on bottom shelf. Grease <a href="http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/assets/product_images/230/2104011058990P.JPG">popover pan</a> and place in oven. Warm eggs in a bowl of hot water for ~10 minutes. Using a whisk, beat together eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Next, whisk in flour and mix until smooth then stir in melted butter and rosemary. Remove pan from oven and fill each cup 3/4 full with batter and top with 1-2 Tbsp cheese. Bake popovers at 450F for 20 minutes and then at 350F for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. </div>

I'm ecstatic with how this lunch turned out! I walked over to Zoe's earlier and picked up a half pint of their Mediterranean tuna salad and a side of marinated slaw and made a sandwich out of it with some bread I had back in the dorm. With the addition of an apple I had a perfect balanced meal. Deeelicious!</div>

As far as the workout goes I've been sticking to the stairs. Eleven flights of stairs at least three times a day. I honestly believe my calves are growing! Yes! But hopefully after this week I'll slip into a routine and be able to hit the gym. I'll keep you posted!<br />

Everyone has grown up hearing <i>Eat your vegetables! </i>whether it came from Mom, Dad, or Grandma.</div>
Those who chose to listen were rewarded with praise or even dessert.<br />

Growing up I can remember loading my sweet potato with butter and brown sugar until it turned in to a Thanksgiving Day side and dipping my broccoli and carrots into pools of ranch dressing. So clearly eating my vegetables was not a difficult task.<br />
<br />
<br />
Nowadays, things are a little different when it comes to me eating my vegetables. I have never been a picky eater (which I can credit to my lack of health before and my passion for health now) it just took me a little while to actually <b>learn<i> how </i>to eat</b>. You see, sweet potatoes are amazing exactly how they are - they don't need all the extras! And broccoli and carrots taste waaay better with hummus!<br />

<br />
I can't tell you how many times I'll see someone thinking they are being healthy by eating their vegetables only to completely negate their good intentions with all the unnecessary condiments! So next time you do your body some good by eating your vegetables remember <i style="font-weight: bold;">how</i> to eat them.<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Salads should be loaded with colorful veggies and lightly tossed in a serving of vinaigrette dressing.</li>
<li>Vegetables should be steamed or cooked until just tender - once they lose their color they also lose all of their healthy benefits.</li>
<li>Instead of frying try baking, roasting, or sautéing.</li>
<li>Dip raw veggies in a serving or hummus or plain greek yogurt mixed with a packet of seasoning.</li>
<li>Ween yourself off all the extras when it comes to potatoes by gradually adding less and less so you can learn to enjoy them in pure form. </li>
</ul>

While it might take some time, eventually you'll be able to eat raw veggies on their own and actually enjoy them! Make it a challenge to start eating your vegetables healthier so you can actually reap all of their wonderful benefits! </div>

I always get the falafel for two reasons 1) falafel might be my favorite thing IN the world and 2) I'm a vegetarian (unless Mom busts out a perfectly seasoned, medium rare steak mm mm).</div>

Things to consider when eating out...</div>

<li>It is <b>very</b> likely that the portions you receive at restaurants or any fast food chains are astronomically too big. To insure you don't end up eating five times the calories intended ask for a to go box and immediately box half your order. Now you have a meal for the next day. </li>
<li>Do not be afraid to say "a little of this" and "not too much of that" or "hold the ___". Trust me the server won't be annoyed, if anything they'll laugh at you - I speak from experience. </li>
<li>Avoid combos, supersize, and 3 for $1 gimmicks. You won't be saving fifty cents by ordering more food than you were planning on purchasing. But you will be saving calories by avoiding the sales pitch...</li>

Lately, I just haven't had the motivation to go through my intense workouts and HIITs so I've been doing some good for the soul yoga. I love Gaiam's videos with Rodney Yee. He has some great twenty minute yoga workouts which are perfect for me since that's about how long my patience is when I'm alone instead of taking a class <i>annnd</i> it makes it easy to get a quick yoga sesh in first thing in the morning. </div>

My favorite health bloggers out there have not only provided me with motivation and creative new ideas but they've also helped inspire me to <b>cut the crap</b>. So to anyone who's been thrown a little off balance like me -- you are not alone. Everyone has those days when being healthy just sucks and working out is on the bottom of the totem poll.<br />

But the thing is it's only sometimes. If I ate like said way above I'd be miserable and my body would hate me. While it may be difficult to be healthy <i>sometimes </i>I'm willing to work at finding my balance just like all the other seemingly perfect healthy peeps out there because in the end it's all <b>worth it</b>.<br />

Yup - tomato soup! So I decided all my tomato soup needed was some popovers. </div>

I picked up the routine cup of joe in the middle of my high school career in hopes it would give me the energy to power through my morning classes without nodding my head back due to a lack of a good night's sleep. Here we are at RYU, Scott Disick's new restaurant in the Meat Packing District, the first night we arrived. We didn't have dinner until 11:30 but boy was it good! The four of us (my mother and her good friend, Cindy) ordered a few small plates and two mains. Everything tasted amazing so I had to take a look at the dessert menu. Emelie and I decided to try the RYU Sundae, thinking it'd be a smaller dessert like the rest of the plates, not only was is the best sundae I've had but it was huge! Wish I would've taken a picture - cherry gelato, salted caramel, and short cake. YUM. The four of us cleaned the bowl.</div>

Sunday was our first full day and we started it off with a 9:30am mass service at Church of St. Peter which is a block from Ground Zero and breakfast at Sarabeth's. Then we cruised the streets scoping out all the Sunday vendors. We scored some cool jewelry that was super cute and, even better, super cheap!</div>

For lunch we came across this AWESOME sushi bar, The Blue Ribbon. Again, I wish I'd have taken some pictures of our lunch but I was too excited to dig in. Luckily I remembered to get a picture of our mid-afternoon snack at The Big Gay Ice Cream Shop! I saw Big Gay on the Food Network and again in the Delta SkyMagazine so I made it a must. This is a combination of the Salty Pimp and the American Globs - vanilla cone injected with dulce de leche (mexican caramel sauce), topped with sea salt, covered in pretzel pieces, and dipped in chocolate...aka heaven on a cone. And yes, I ate the whole thing.</div>

We ended Sunday with another incredible meal, this time at Bobby Flay's MESA Grill. I'm not exaggerating when I say everything was delicious! Great, light and flavorful Mexican cuisine. </div>

Monday morning we taxied on over to Hoboken, NJ for some breakfast at La Isla's, another as seen on Food Network's Throw Down with Bobbly Flay. La Isla's is mostly Cuban cuisine, it was a very laid back place to enjoy breakfast. As you can seen we both ordered the stuffed french toast and it did not disappoint! Challah bread stuffed with a strawberry-guava cream cheese filling, then dipped in a cinnamon egg wash and coated with a cornflake-almond crust, cooked up on a hot skillet and topped with strawberry-guava sauce and powdered sugar. I bet your mouth is watering now, am I right? </div>

Whadda ya know? The Cake Boss's bakery was right across the street from La Isla's! The line to get inside was ginormous so a picture had to suffice. After breakfast in Jersey we took the ferry back to Manhattan.</div>

Lunch on Monday was at Xi'an Famous Foods in St. Mark's Place. Mom and I ate here when we were in NYC earlier this year and I knew I had to introduce Emelie to Xi'an's spicy noodles. I ordered the spicy vegetable noodles and Emelie ordered the spicy hot oil noodles (pictured above). What makes this plate of noodles so bomb is the incredible spice and the fact that the noodles are made to order. NOM!</div>

Tuesday was our last full day in the city so we took it easy. Well, sort of. The day started off with a total body toning class at NYSC Gym (which I'd like to note I'm still sore from!) and then a subway ride to an Uptown breakfast at Norma's. Best breakfast of the trip and I didn't take a picture of my shrimp frittata. Sigh. </div>

After breakfast we headed back to the hotel to wash up before going to the Metropolitan Museum and then Potted Potter! Potted Potter is a show were two guys act out all seven Potter books in 70 minutes, pretty hilarious. After the show we got some food at Gazala Place where I had the best baklava of my life. True story.</div>

After finding a new blog to follow, Rabbit Food For My Bunny Teeth, I was inspired to try juicing so I used my Williams Sonoma gift cards I had gotten for graduation to purchase a juicer! Juicing helps digestion and makes it easier for your body to absorb the nutrients from the fruits and vegetables. Usually people juice to cleanse like Joe Cross of Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead who lost 80 lbs and cured himself of a chronic illness after a 60 day juice cleanse. Below are pictures of my very first juice! I was so excited to get straight to juicing and willing throw anything in that juicer. In my opinion, this juice tasted great! I offered my mom a sip and she immediately asked if I was scared to try it and I had to laugh because I was the complete opposite of scared but I could tell she was apprehensive. She thought the juice was just okay...bearable would probably be a better word for it, haha. It all just depends on what your taste buds are like and what you're willing to try. This juice really filled me up and I enjoyed every last drop!</div>
